| Tourism in Jamaica
Tourism in Jamaica is a vital part of
the Jamaican economy with many people visiting Jamaica from America
and European countries such as the United Kingdom. The national
airline of Jamaica is Air Jamaica who offer scheduled flights from
many worldwide destinations including London and Miami.
Because many Jamaicans rely on
tourism you will generally find a friendly welcome in most Jamaican
resorts and a variety of services and goods on offer at discounted
prices. As with most tourist destinations, haggling is expected and
you can pick up some good bargains at the markets in Jamaica.
Cruise ships also often stop for day trips at Montego Bay and Ocho
Rios but you may want to venture off the main streets to pick up
some deals as the shops in the main street will have tourist prices
of course.
Many of the UK tourists will consider
renting a car in Jamaica as officially they drive on the same side
of the road as the British ( the left ) but you need to be aware at
all times as the roads don't have many traffic signals and Jamaican
drivers don't exercise much caution when approaching bends or cross
roads !
When visiting Jamaica you should try
and support the local economy and buy locally produced products
that are not only a lot cheaper than imported products but also let
you enjoy the real Jamaica and get a taste of local life. Although
Jamaicans are famous for their friendly manner, it is of course
common sense that you exercise caution in certain areas in
Jamaica.
